Community guidelines

The standards everyone on Mechi agrees to follow.

Effective: 15 October 2026Applies to the Mechi app and mechyapp.com

Mechi works when people can trust who they are talking to. These guidelines apply to your profile, your photos and every message you send. Breaking them can get your account removed.

Be yourself

  • Use your real first name and your own recent photos.
  • Do not pretend to be someone else, a celebrity, or a business.
  • One person, one account.

Be respectful

  • No harassment, threats, bullying or stalking, on Mechi or after you meet.
  • No hate speech about ethnicity, tribe, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or nationality.
  • If someone does not reply, unmatches or blocks you, accept it and move on.

Keep it appropriate

  • No nudity or sexual content in photos or bios.
  • Do not send sexual messages or images unless the other person has clearly welcomed them.
  • No graphic violence, weapons or drugs in your photos.

No scams or selling

  • Never ask a match for money, M-Pesa transfers, airtime, gifts or bank details.
  • No advertising, promotions, links, or recruiting for any business, including sex work.
  • No phone numbers or social media handles in your profile.

Protect privacy

  • Do not share someone else's photos, messages or personal details without their permission.
  • Do not post photos of other people, and never of children on their own.

Adults only

Mechi is for people 18 and over. We have zero tolerance for any content or behaviour that sexualises or endangers children. Read our child safety standards.

How we enforce these guidelines

Every report is reviewed. Depending on what happened, we may remove content, warn you, limit your account, or remove it permanently. Serious cases, including any risk to a child, are reported to the police.

To report someone, open your chat with them, tap Options, then Report. Reporting also blocks them right away. You can also email safety@mechyapp.com.
